Org. Setting and Reporting

This internship position is located in the Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS), Investigations Division (ID), in New York and is available for a duration of three months with the possibility of extension, depending on the needs of the office.

The internship is unpaid and full-time. Interns usually work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

A flexible working schedule may be available to the intern, depending on the needs of the office. To successfully complete the internship under a flexible schedule, the intern must work the equivalent hours of a two-month full-time internship within no more than six months from the beginning of the internship.


Responsibilities

Responsibilities of the internship position encompass the following:

? Assisting with the collection and assembly of evidence, analysis of information and data related to investigations, and researching issues related to investigations

? Individuals will work closely with investigation teams and participate in planning, execution and completion of investigation tasks

? Individuals with IT interest/abilities will also have access to analytical tools and involvement with digital forensics

? An individual workplan will be developed for the intern to ensure the most meaningful engagement

Education

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:

? Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

(a) Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);

(b) Have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if , must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation;

(c) Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent)

? Be computer-literate in standard software applications;

? Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and

? Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

                

Work Experience

Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the internship programme. However, applicants are encouraged to list all relevant work experience in their UN Personal History Profile (PHP).


Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is desirable. The official languages of the United Nations Secretariat are Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.
