Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the Communications, Information and Outreach (CIO), Office of the Secretary-General (OSG) of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), Geneva.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Public Information Officer (Web and Social Media) will be responsible for the following duties:
? Enhances UNCTAD's digital outreach through the web, (unctad.org) and state-of-the art social media applications. This is done through: - developing digital communications campaigns to publicize major UNCTAD events, publications and findings, in coordination with substantive divisions and CIO units; - Overseeing electronic content management for unctad.org and its language versions; - Providing a liaison function between the content providers and the technical development team to ensure optimal functionality for accessibility of content on the main website and the UNCTAD substantive divisions' sub-sites; - Building-up photo and video content on unctad.org and other platforms; - Digital brand positioning and improvements to the workflows.
? Ensures that UNCTAD's work is promoted through timely, newsworthy and quality on-line content. This is done through: - Initiating and drafting web and social media content according to established editorial standards; - Editing house-wide draft inputs; - Coordinating all actions required for the timely publishing of web and social media content; - Assisting Chief, CIO in enforcing web editorial standards and social media governance.
? Provides advice to the Chief, CIO and the OSG on technical and content improvements to web and social media applications. This is done through: - Researching and identifying new features and functionalities for public-facing web operations; - Assessing existing social media applications (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Flickr, LinkedIn, Instagram) and recommending new platforms to increase audience and influence; - Continuously monitoring web and social media content and impact using metrics and sharing findings and recommendations with management and content providers; - Recommending improvements to web editorial standards, social media governance and the online communications strategy; - Regularly liaising with web and social media officers from other UN agencies to keep abreast of UN web and social media developments and governance standards.
?Enhances house-wide understanding and effective use of online and social media communication. This is done through: - Organizing informal, small group briefing sessions to UNCTAD staff; - Assisting content providers to translate complex information into effective social media communication; - Providing strategic guidance to a small team in the web and social media unit, and peers in UNCTAD’s substantive divisions, on appropriate communications tools; - Acting as social media focal point for divisions and services; -Participating in UNCTAD's Communications Group to advise on web content priorities and effective applications.
?Performs other related duties as required.
